Beach Parking: Insider Tips

Nothing ruins a beach day faster than circling for parking. Here are the local secrets for stress-free parking at two of our most popular beaches:
Wrightsville Beach Parking Tips
Arrive Early (Before 9 AM)
The metered spots along Lumina Avenue fill up fast. Get there before 9 AM on weekends, or you'll be walking from the paid lots.
NEW Wayfinding Mapping
Anticipated to go live in May 2026, this platform will allow users to view where parking may be available, based on transaction data.
Text2Park and Pay-by-Plate Kiosks
Hourly: $5/hour for standard spots, $6/hour for premium spots.
Daily: $25/day for standard, $30/day for premium.
Expert Tip: Try the Municipal Complex
Near the park/Loop, the Municipal Complex offers two hours of free parking if you register your plate at the kiosk. A great "local secret" for a quick walk or coffee.
Carolina Beach Parking Tips

Freeman Park 4x4 Access
You need a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle and a $50 daily permit to drive onto the sand. Access is managed via the SurfCAST app, don't get stuck at the gate without it!
Standardized Rates
Most town lots are $6/hour or $25 for the full day. If you're staying more than 4 hours, always choose the daily rate to save money.
Head South to the "Whale" Lots
If the Boardwalk is full, head south to Alabama, Tennessee, Texas or Florida Ave lots. Look for the Whale Icon on the signs, these lots are usually the last to fill up and offer easy beach access.
Free After 8 PM
Unlike Wrightsville, Carolina Beach enforcement ends at 8:00 PM (except for premium lots). It's the perfect time for a late-night stroll on the Boardwalk or a trip to Britt's.
30-Minute "Donut" Spots
There are a handful of 30-minute free spots near the Boardwalk specifically for quick errands. They are strictly enforced, so don't push your luck!
Consider Weekday Visits
Tuesday through Thursday is the "sweet spot."
Enforcement Note: Remember that in 2026, paid parking is enforced from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
